In February, AOL CEO Jeff Bewkers has declared that they are doing separation of AOL's audience business from their access business. AOL used to have 9-10 call centers for performing services for their access business, and it has ultimately occurred that its call center operations in India has been sold to Aegis BPO Services, a part of Essar Group. By the last part of April, the acquisition is hoped to be fully accomplished. The removal of call centers is a part of AOL's careful plan of concentrating on its central operations.

As AOL has sold its last call center to Aegis, AOL will be continued to service with the local center by Aegis. AOL India refused to remark on the conditions or the size of the deal. For a 1,000 seat call center, in spite of the fact that ToI, the sister publication of ET, had fixed the deal at $100 million, ET approximates the deal around $25-20 million.

Whatever the price of the deal is, the AOL's careful plan of concentrating on its central operations is a good maneuver. That is  similar to concentrating its efforts in a special activity.
