President Arroyo conducted a tour in Cyber Corridor. The place is called Cyber Corridor because the firms in the site are associated with information and communications technology (ICT) and business process outsourcing. The President need to accomplish all human and physical infrastructures for the ICT-BPO segment, this will give more opportunities to young Filipinos. In 2001, the BPO sector started as a virtual non-entity with only 2,000 workers. Last year, BPO sector boost up its status as a Sunshine Industry which generated revenue of US$7.3 billion. This is equivalent to 4 to 5% gross domestic product (GDP). By 2011, US$13 billion revenue is expected to be generated. By 2011, US$13 billion revenue is also projected. And by 2020, a projection of US$100 billion in a universal business of US$500 billion or around 20% percent market share. In 2009, the BPO industry had given half a million jobs in 2009. TESDA played a major role in the development of BPO firms thru jobs bridging and skills retraining. The Arroyo administration had allocated P500 million fund to provide full or partial scholarships for BPO training, medical/legal transcriptionists, animators, and software developers. This scholarship grant is known as PGS (Pangulong Gloria Scholarships). Workers with skills requirements like aviation, metals and engineering, medical tourism, hotel and restaurant, agri-business, and services are also given opportunities. TESDA and BPO organizations' partnership have produced 25,845 graduates in 2009 wherein 93% are call center agents.
