The economic crisis in US had forced its government to discuss a bill called House Bill 3696 or the US Call Center and Consumer Protection Act which will discourages American companies to outsource in other countries. With this motive, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) started a project that will provide trainings and seminars for potential BPO personnel and will hire 65,000 workers. The agency will support the implementation of the project by financing P500 million. TESDA Director General Joel Villanueva explained that the decision of the US government will serve as a test to reassess and improve their agency's Training Regulations (TR) on call-center services. They will coordinate with Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) to look for BPO workers who will be given training and scholarships that adhere to international standards. With this kind of preparation, the currently hired BPO workers may still continue their jobs in other sectors. BPAP also promotes Road Map for 2016 which covers the enhancement of various programs including information-technology outsourcing. The Road Map plan envisions to increase other BPO jobs and to boost BPO budget from 1.8 to 4.5 million dollars and exporting funds from $9 to $10 billion in 2016. Statistics showed that $7 billion profit is gained by the BPO industry in the Philippines with more than 600,000 employees serving 70% clients in America. [via tesda.gov.ph] |
