TeleTech operation in Lorain County started its operation in October 2007 in Amherst Township. From the memo given to the employees of TeleTech Holdings Inc., the call center firm in Lorain County will be closed on May 31 of this year. This will result to 585 jobless people; most of them are full time employees. Most positions were entry-level phone support jobs. Local employees are qualified to be transferred to other centers, like Pennsylvania and West Virginia, the closest location. TeleTech will help other employees to find another job by holding job fairs and by means of outplacement assistance. According to Bob Livingston, Spokesman of the 28-year-old Colorado-based business, the Amherst location provided customer service support for one client and they had changed their business style now. The call center had signed a large, U.S. based telecommunications client, T-Mobile. At present, TeleTech has 70 call centers with 45,000 employees in 17 countries. The companies handle inquiries from 3.5 million people everyday such as phone calls, email or live chat. Because of business fluctuations, TeleTech has opened and closed various locations in the past few years. Still, they continue to seek new businesses to replace lost ones. [via cleveland.com] |
