President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is planning of having an information technology hub hosting in provinces with one call center company. She stated that the University of the Philippines-Ayala Land Technohub will serve as the best host for call centers. She also said that with this science and technology park, we anticipate that UP, will light a new technological revolution that will advance our total science and technology capability and lead our country to the threshold of the first world in 20 years. We have not been able to put together a national broadband so with the aide of the ICT jargon, we need to direct the entire country to gain more business process outsourcing and hardcore technology companies to train young Filipinos to be world-class workers in programming, embedded technologies and network engineering. In developing strategy for a technology hub in every province, Mrs. Arroyo said the sketch of the technical plan shall be performed by the Commission on Information and Communication Technology. Every province in the country must be an ICT enabler. Our national government, with the CICT, should guide the local government units concerned to pursue the technological programs with the objectives below: - To develop a technology focal point in each of the country's provinces to be able to host the very least call center operations.
- To enlarge the facility of provinces that are already ICT-enablers so they can increase their absorptive capacity and enlarge into hardcore ICT operations.
According to latest reports, the Philippines has captured more than 20 percent of the world market in call center firms. More than 100 call center businesses are operating in the country, most of them are in the business districts like Ortigas Center, Eastwood City Cyberpark, Fort Bonifacio and the Northgate Cyberzone in Muntinlupa.
