This year the off shoring and outsourcing (O&O) business will provide job opportunities to the people. But companies, parents, and schools are not bothered with this good news. They think of cultural problems and other job opportunities present in the industry.

The 6 segments of O&O industry are:

  1. contact centers (call centers)
  2. back-office processing/shared services
  3. medical transcription
  4. animation gaming development and digital content
  5. software development
  6. engineering design services

To date, O&O industry is only 10 yrs. old and it has offered important new career opportunities which produced about 320,000 local jobs. Based on the estimation of Business Process Association of the Philippines (BPAP), by 2010 the business will grasp 10% of the global market share which hired over 900,000 workforces and contributed $12 billion in the market. In fact, 70% percent of the O&O employment is consists of contact centres. CCAP or Contact Center Association of the Philippines stated that the business expected a-two-digit rate at a wary estimation of 23% in 2008. CCAP membership holds the continuous expansion within the year of 2009. Based on their projections for 2009, estimations for the following had occurred:

  • 52% same growth rate
  • 37% fast growth rate
  • 7% slow growth rate

Companies must be responsive to cultural differences in providing global O&O job opportunities to Filipinos. Based from the work of Gert Hofstede in Profile of Philippine National Culture vs. selected Western Countries, there are considerable differences in authority and independence between American and Philippine traditions. Filipinos choose societal distance or chain of command and team performance vs. casualness and independence. Creativity towards work and job planning must know cultural differences to enable to prolong the superiority though building Philippine morals. Schools and parents should understand and appreciate the probable careers of their students in the O&O Industry. Truly, O&O industry spread the good news for employment in the Philippines for 2009, and companies need to comprehend cultural strengths. [via]
