Based from a study, nowadays risky sex is slightly higher among call center workers compared to those who work in different industries. The University of the Philippines (UP) Population Institute conducted the study. According to them, risky sex is increasing because of the different lifestyle and reproductive health concerns of call center and non-call center workers in Metro Manila and Metro Cebu. Call center employees engaged in pre-marital sex is now 75% while non-call center workers at 66.6%.

The study proved the following:

  • call center agents had sex before the age of 18 - 25%
  • non-call center employees - 16%
  • call center agents had more than one sexual partner - 25%
  • non-call center employees - 20%
  • non-call center employees have paid or were paid for sex - (20%
  • non-call center employees - 12.5%

Furthermore, the study also proved that here were more males and females in call center who engaged in careless sex than those who work for different industries (50% vs. 35% for males, 11.1% vs. 7% for females). The UP study had also showed that less male call center workers experienced unprotected sex compared to non-call center employees (30% vs. 32%). Call center agents go to party aggressively during their very late shifts. This makes them prone to sexually-transmitted infections like human immuno-deficiency virus (HIV).  The Association of Call Center and BPO Agents in the Philippines (ACCAP) aims to tackle the needs of call center agents in the country. They received an e-mail from Joseph Ryan who seeks for emotional and financial support to let him pursue the treatment for HIV. [via abs-cbnnews.com]
