Dell at Texas is attending to the demand of callers to speak to a non-overseas person, which could help to bring back some jobs to the U.S. To cut on operating costs, American firms had established business process outsourcing offices overseas, primarily in India and the Philippines. Call center agents from these two English-speaking nations were undergoing extensive accent-removal training sessions because some U.S. based callers have complained the difficulty in understanding the party on the other end of the line. To tackle this problem, Dell opens its “Your Tech Team” service with assurance that agents are based in U.S. A higher rate of $12.95 monthly must be paid by Dell account holders or $99 annually for those who purchase a new computer from Dell. According to Dell spokesman, Bob Kaufman, the new service will address issues of globalization which takes away jobs from Americans, but will maintain the company's operations profitable. Dell didn’t reveal how many agents are under the new service. From a previous report of Dell, the net income in the third quarter is $727 million which is equivalent to a 5 percent decrease compared to a year ago. With the result of its revenue dip, Dell proposed several cost cutting techniques including the cutting of its payroll by 8,300. By opening BPO services in other countries where labor is inexpensive, companies have saved 50 to 75 percent. |
