The ambassador to the Philippines, Christopher Thornley stated that Canada plans to locate its higher-value business process outsourcing (BPO) services in the Philippines. Canadian companies will continue to offer non-voice services as they expand the global footprint through offshoring and outsourcing. According to Thornley, Canada will share job opportunities for finance and accounting in the Philippines.Philippines will provide BPO services that are in line with information technology. Since the Philippines has overtaken India in providing voice services, the country is now called the "call center capital of the world". TELUS International, Canadian telecommunication giant, chose the Philippines for various IT/BPO services. TELUS International was known as the leader in the global call center outsourcing and IT development industry. The firm will employ 9,000 workers which will serve cost-effective, high-quality call center outsourcing services and IT solutions for customer care, sales, technical support, market research, back-office support, IT development and business process outsourcing. Among TELUS clientele are companies in the utilities, high-tech, travel, hospitality, telecommunications and financial services industries. Canadian insurers Manulife and Sun Life will also serve as back offices in the country. Bombardier, transportation giant will be sharing facilities for finance, back office, accounting and bookkeeping in Cebu. [via malaya.com.ph]
