In a study made by the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the University of the Philippines Population Institute, results showed that many call center employees are experiencing fatigue and insomnia. The survey, which is part of the study, it says that 47.7% of call center employees who work on the graveyard shift suffer from insomnia, while 54% experience fatigue. In addition to these, Carlo Sanchez, a former call center agent, shares his experiences with his former work. He said that he had a hard time adjusting to his work schedule. He also got stressed from the feedback he would get from customers he would call. And because of these problems many are resigning from their work and some are turning to vices such as smoking and drinking to cope with their jobs that can cause them certain diseases. But despite of some harmful effects of working in a graveyard shift like call centers, many have no plans of leaving their job since; some are receiving many benefits such as meal and transport allowance, and medical insurance. And to minimize the problems that might cause sickness of the workers, the Business Processing Association of the Philippines said they have asked call center companies to strictly require employees to undergo physical and medical examinations.
