BPO's prospective Professionals may avail of the free training modules from DOST

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), through its Information and Communication Technology Office will offer free training modules that will assess and improve the skills of prospective BPO professionals. Their main goal is to provide a constant supply of proficient and qualified workers for the country’s successful business process outsourcing (BPO) industry.

An online and CD-based training tool will be presented in the internet to assist the potential employees to be equipped. The program also aims to improve the average hiring rate in BPO industry which is currently five percent. According to Trade Secretary Gregory Domingo learning and capacity-building were the top priorities of DOST’s agenda for the BPO industry.

The Department of Budget and Management allotted P500 million for the BPO industry. The said amount will be used for the “train the trainer” and faculty development programs. To be able to recruit more applicants, the Aegis People Support Inc. is planning to set up its Global Academy in the country. The firm is presently coordinating with the Cebu City Government to put up the Aegis Global Academy at the South Road Properties.Aegis Limited managing director and global chief executive officer Aparup Sengupta stated that they are now classifying the target market for the academy. The kind of curriculum is also part of the plan. In an article posted in Aegis Global Academy flagship institute website, the Institute of Customer Experience Management (ICEM) is the first to offer an MBA counterpart program which focuses on customer relationship management allotted to the service industries.

From the 2nd district of Cebu, Rep. Tomas Osmena also explained the efforts of the company in helping Cebu to deal with with the demands of the industry. In addition, Osmeña stated that if the University of the Philippines-Cebu will not set up its MBA facility at the SRP this year, SRP management might revoke the five-hectare lot they donated because the UP Cebu-SRP contract will expire this year.
