The National Economic and Development Authority projected the merging of Information Technology (IT) and business process outsourcing (BPO) industries such as call center and tourism sector. The said merging will bring better economy this 2011 which will result to more job offerings to millions of new graduates and the unemployed. There will be 788 call centers in 20 key locations in the country which will include Muslim Mindanao with 350,000 young Filipino employees this year and 300,000 last 2009. Philippines and India hold a major portion of the global outsourcing market because of the proficiency of Filipinos in the English language. For a couple of years, our country has become a hub of Western companies that build call centers and continuously develop software to minimize the costs. At present, the country's call centers clientele are multinational companies from the United States, Europe, Middle East, and Asia. Today, Pharmaceutical firms also outsource their medical transcriptions from the country. Young Filipinos prefer to be a call center agent for their start. This helps them improve their English communication skills. The training will boost the workers’ self-confidence and communication skills. The government supports the development in the BPO and tourism industries. More infrastructures like railway and airports are envisioned to be upgraded under the public-private partnership (PPP) program. This will attract more visitors and investors, as well as provide more jobs for Filipinos. [via mb.com.ph] |
